Spotify Rolls Out AI-Powered Playlist Customization for Premium Users in the US and Canada
Spotify has launched an AI-based feature in the United States and Canada that enables premium users to personalize their playlists based on their listening habits and voice commands.
Following the success in New Zealand, this expansion is the latest in a series of AI-driven updates from the Swedish streaming platform to attract more users to its subscription plans from the free tier.
“Listeners want Spotify to understand them, but they also want to actively shape their own experience,” said Molly Holder, Spotify’s Vice President of Product Personalization, during a press briefing.
According to Spotify, this new feature positions users as active participants who direct the algorithm using their own words and intentions instead of being passive recipients of suggestions from the streaming platform.
How the New Feature Works
Unlike previous functions, such as AI-generated playlists, the request-a-playlist feature allows users to set “rules” for generated content and schedule updates daily or weekly, ensuring the music remains fresh, according to Spotify.
Recent Price Increase
This update comes after Spotify announced earlier this month that it would raise the monthly subscription price for its premium plan by a dollar, to $12.99, in the United States, Estonia, and Latvia starting February.
