The Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB) is on the brink of crowning its 2025 champion. The final will pit Diablos Rojos del México against Charros de Jalisco, an unprecedented matchup in the Serie del Rey, the LMB’s championship series.
Diablos Rojos del México’s Journey to the Final
Diablos Rojos del México secured their spot in the final by winning the Zona Sur Championship Series 4-2 against Piratas de Campeche. Their triumph in the decisive sixth game, a 12-6 victory on September 4 at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City, sealed their passage to the final.
“This is a winning team, here are the best players in Mexico, they have the hunger to win and keep winning. I never doubt my team; I only have the utmost respect for Piratas de Campeche. It was a beautiful series for any baseball lover,” said Santiago Harp, vice president of Diablos Rojos del México’s Board of Administration.
As the reigning LMB champions, Diablos Rojos del México topped the regular season standings in 2024, defeating Pericos de Puebla, Leones de Yucatán, Guerreros de Oaxaca, and Sultanes de Monterrey to claim their 17th title, ending a decade-long drought.
Charros de Jalisco’s Road to the Final
Charros de Jalisco qualified for the postseason as the sixth seed in the Zona Norte regular season, finishing with a 46-46 record. They gradually increased their strength throughout the playoffs, defeating Sultanes de Monterrey 4-3 in the initial playoff and advancing to the Zona eliminatoria series, where they overcame Algodoneros de Unión Laguna 4-3. In the Campeonato series, they triumphed over Monterrey in five grueling games.
This marks the first time in 54 years that Charros de Jalisco has reached the Serie del Rey, with their last appearance coming in 1971 when they won their second LMB title by overcoming a 0-3 deficit against Saraperos de Saltillo.
